May’s Odd Day Challenge Update
Have you had a chance to participate in our #dXOddDayChallenge? We’re enjoying creating and experiencing the results of each day’s prompt in dXing Space and on social media (don’t forget to tag us when you share there!)
This is an opportunity to play with both word prompts (on the list) and the accompanying visual prompt (check them out in our private community - dXing Space). We’ve got visual artists and creative writers participating - come join in! Experiment, play, explore!!!
And remember that you can jump in at any point - the list is totally hop on hop off!!!
Get to know a Snoopervisor!
Dr. Matt coined a term - snoopervisor - which is an animal that feels the need to insert itself into whatever it is you happen to be doing at the time to make sure you’re doing it right!
Meet Leeloo - (oversees Seva)
Leeloo agreed to live in Seva’s house on a couple of conditions: that she be given free range of the house and grounds, and that the incessant hounding she’s experienced from paparazzi cease. She’s so beautiful that photos continue to be taken and she continues to avoid looking into the camera. The picture in the lower left is her official headshot - contact her agent for signed copies.
Rooney on the Mound - a Poem by Parz
The poem was inspired by the May 7 Odd Day Challenge prompt, Joy. I found myself thinking about the line “But there is no joy in Mudville - mighty Casey has struck out.” I wondered what would happen if I wrote the other side of the famous poem, Casey at the Bat (to get the full effect of the poem, consider reading the original first - here’s a link)…
The outlook had been brilliant for the Joyville nine that day: The score stood four to two, with but one inning more to play, And then when Cooney died at first, and Barrows did the same, A breathless silence fell upon the patrons of the game. One out remained to wrap the game to its conclusion, But to have Casey be the final out would require some collusion; He let two on to bring about this battle most dramatic, Which does explain why Rooney pitched so suddenly erratic; Casey let two strikes go by with nary a glance at all, So pitcher composed and Casey readied for the third and final ball; Rooney’s loose and calm and meets the batter’s rabid stare, An epic battle of the ages to be seen by all who were there; What happened next was not recorded by Mudville’s side that day, But Rooney knew it was suicide to throw anything within play; So he counted on Casey’s pride and rage, his indomitable verve, The furious batter swung at the pitcher’s unhittable curve; Here in the land of Joyville, the sun is shining bright, The band’s playing is raucous, and hearts are free and light; The entire town is laughing, and children play and shout, For there is no Mud in Joyville - clever Rooney struck Casey out.
Did You Know That…?
…Mindfulness can help relieve depression and anxiety
The modern world can be extremely stressful. Our brains aren’t built to handle the constant deluge of information. In fact, it’s well-known that stress is an inhibitor for proper brain operation, healing, and growth.
The good news (as Gno-Me is alluding to in the comic) is that adding a few minutes of meditation or other mindfulness exercise daily can bring about dramatic positive changes to brain structures related to stress response and emotional processing (the amygdala) and behavioural and emotional responses (the cingulate cortex).
