The Continuing Adventures of Danger Girl (and her trusty sidekick, The Permissive Creative)
Today’s episode finds Parz S. trying to be hard at work writing his newest microfiction. But instead of the sound of keys clicking away and satisfied humming from our writer, it’s instead the sound of rhythmic tapping on the closed laptop and the occasional nuh-uh as yet another idea is rejected.
Enter the Permissive Creative!
What seems to be the problem?
Well, Permissive Creative, I have this idea for a microfiction. But who would believe that dogs can dance Flamenco?
Everyone!, exclaims Permissive Creative, so long as you frame it the right way. Instead of introducing the idea as new, make it sound like something that’s already been introduced! Like this!
As Parz types away, telling the story of a French can-can dancing poodle looking to study Spanish culture through Flamenco, The Permissive Creative looks into the camera. Be like Danger Girl! Be brave! Be bold! Be dangerous!
Stay tuned for another exciting adventure with Danger Girl and The Permissive Creative!
Get to know a Snoopervisor!
Dr. Matt coined a term - snoopervisor - which is an animal that feels the need to insert itself into whatever it is you happen to be doing at the time to make sure you’re doing it right!
Meet Albi - (oversees Carissa)
(Excerpted from A Life Misunderstood, by Albi)
It’s hard to overstate just how misunderstood I’ve been throughout my life.
Take, for instance, how I arrived at my current residence. I was the sole cat at a dog rescue centre. Let me emphasize - a dog rescue. And, let me add, I didn’t need rescuing. It was more like that I was… under-housed.
In an unlikely stroke of fate, my current humans came to the dog rescue centre looking for a mouse catcher. Since none of the dogs jumped at the job (and let’s face it, they’ll jump at anything), I deigned to accept the position and perform it as I saw fit. Which is to say, mice are safe within my domain. Crickets, however…
Upon arriving in this strange new land, I discovered a willing minion - the dog known as Frankie (of Frankie Off Grid). She does my bidding - I am, after all, the acknowledged sovereign of all these lands.
As I make my royal rounds of the grounds (my food bowl; the sofa; my favourite sun bathing spot within the forested preserve; random boxes, baskets, and bags for lighter naps; and of course anywhere the humans are for that is where belly rubs and cuddles are to be had), I make it a practice to announce myself to all, both near and far. (Very very very far. Let’s face it - if you got it, flaunt it. And I know how to project my meow). I have spent time with dogs (and their unceasing need to bark) but it’s me that everyone hears.
In addition, I have developed a scent that, in all honesty, is probably my best trait. I have heard many comments, amidst some choking and coughing, about it. “Indescribable” is one I heard recently and I believe sums it up nicely.
And now I will leave the job of transcribing these notes to someone of lessor qualities. I have worked quite enough today and am overdue for a nap. But first, my tummy requires rubbing.
After the Livestream… Haiku
Parz is always glad when a student is inspired by a lesson. This week, that student was himself.
The topic of the day was Haiku - the Japanese poetry art form that he remembers as being presented in his school years where adherence to a strict 3-line, 5-7-5 syllable count was vital.
It turns out, the lines and syllables are the least important part of Haiku. The most important part is the capturing of a moment in a simple and yet profound way.
Following the Livestream, guided by the poetry of masters and inspired by the dX Live Open Mic prompts, he explored Haiku. He wrote six, each with its own focus. Here’s one:
Warm pool within cool
Puff pink frames pollen yellow
A splash of color

Did You Know…?
…To feel Truly Successful and Fulfilled, Live Your Authentic Life
Whether we’re aware of it or not, we all have a Trophy Case. Everything we show to the world - our wealth, education, experience - all the measures of outward success get put into the Trophy Case.
What’s more, we can always have a private viewing of our own Trophy Case.
Conventional wisdom says that the more full our Trophy Case is, the more successful and fulfilled we should feel. But oftentimes, that isn’t the case. In fact, it’s easy to feel let down - if the Case is so full, why do we feel so unfulfilled?
It’s because the Trophy Case represents the past - what we’ve done.
The key to feeling fulfilled is focusing on what we’re doing and wanting to do it - living authentically. As a recent article in Psychology Today explains, when we’re in alignment with what we truly care about, our lives become happier. As the author puts it:
Not everyone is going to follow suit or see it the same way you do, but you know wholeheartedly what matters most to you, and you choose to make it matter most. This authenticity leads to a deeper, more lasting sense of fulfillment and happiness, as it aligns with our true values, goals, and passions.
