Prose Poetry by Parz
There’s something exciting about trying something new - a new material, a new technique, a new medium. Parz recently was introduced to the concept of “prose poetry” - the taking of poetic language and applying prose rules. It leads to a rich reading experience!
Here’s the first one he’s written, called Resolutions:
Resolutions sound like governmental pronouncements: “Whereas a need exists and Whereas a solution can be effected for so long as fleeting interest keeps it alive and Whereafter something else will come along to effect a spasm of effort in an alternate direction, we resolve to blah blah blah.”
But residing within my psyche, courtesy of a Dear John response (not that kind, I assure you), a resolution of creative revolution, nurturing this discovery of Prose and Poetry’s love child, giving voice to a sudden rush of Imagination’s whirlwind travel blog updates. A hurricane of thought fragments. I grab at them as they blow past, catch a pitiful few. This new and unruly form refuses definition, ironically as if by definition. As rigid Rule seeks Direction and Guidance, afraid this newfound creation will be as appreciated as Pestilence, Guideline sways happily.
An old dog and new tricks. Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more.
Did You Know…?
… These Lao Tzu Quotes Can Make Your Life (Creative and Otherwise) Better!
Sometimes we need permission to think or act a certain way, even ways that are clearly more inline with our lives! And sometimes those permissions can be found attributed to ancient thinkers and philosophers.
Which brings me to Lao Tzu and his focus on living in harmony with life and doing so simply, humbly, and without attachment. From the 75 quotes on the Parade.com website, let’s look at a few.
What can hold us back from creating and sharing is being concerned with what other people will think.
"Care about what other people think and you will always be their prisoner."
When thinking about creating, do you rush into it and not give yourself the time and space needed to breathe or make a soothing cup of tea?
"Do you have the patience to wait until your mud settles and the water is clear?"
Let’s do one more - does your creative practice involve the familiar and comfortable, or are you willing to try new things, stretch limits, and be outside your comfort zone?
"If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading."
